Triathlon Day Procedures
You are welcome to begin arriving as early as 6:30 AM on race day. We would prefer you park in the regular pool parking lot and walk your bikes and gear around to the back pool entrance to claim a transition slot.
Here is what you should do on race day when you arrive.
1. Claim a transition slot at the bike racks and set your transition zone up.
2. Proceed to the registration table to get your registration bag. There will be a route map in your bag…look it over. Your race bib and some pins will be in the bag as well. YOU MUST BE WEARING YOUR RACE BIB WHEN YOU CROSS THE FINISH LINE, SO PIN IT TO WHATEVER YOU WILL BE WEARING WHEN YOU RUN.
3. Get your bib number marked on your body. Your number must be printed on your left calf and your right arm. There will be people at the registration table available to assist you with this.
4. Attend the pre race meeting at poolside beginning at 7:30 AM. At this time we will explain the routes and procedures for transitioning.
5. First heat swimmers should be in the pool and ready to swim by 7:40 AM. Lanes will not be assigned. There are 14 swimmers per heat. There will be black taped X’s along the north side of the pool to indicate lanes. IF YOU NEED A LANE IN THE SHALLOW END OF THE POOL BE SURE TO CLAIM IT. IF YOU DON’T NEED A SHALLOW LANE, PLEASE TRY TO AVOID THIS AREA SO THOSE WHO NEED IT CAN USE IT!
6. The first swim heat should start at 7:45 AM. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR COUNTING YOUR OWN LAPS. THIS IS A NON-COMPETETIVE EVENT. IF YOU CAN LIVE WITH FINISHING EVEN THOUGH YOU CHEATED ON THE SWIM THEN YOU ARE FREE TO DO SO :-)
7. People who are in heat 2 should be ready to swim once the last heat 1 swimmer leaves the pool. This will likely be around 8:20 am.
8. Heat 3 swimmers should be ready to start about 16 minutes after heat 2 swimmers start.
9. Heat 4, if necessary, should be ready to swim about 14 minutes after heat 3 swimmers start.
PLEASE STAY OUT OF THE TRANSITION ZONE WHEN THE FIRST SWIMMERS BEGIN TO LEAVE THE POOL! THERE WILL BE A CLEARLY MARKED PATH BETWEEN THE POOL AND THE TRANSITION ZONE TO GIVE SWIMMERS THE RIGHT OF WAY!
LAST BUT NOT LEAST, DON’T FORGET A BIKE HELMET! YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO COMPETE WITHOUT ONE!

Race Day Information
The Sand Dunes Swimming pool should be open for access at 6:30 AM. At that time the triathlon crew will be doing some set up (putting up bike racks, preparing the finish line, etc). You can proceed to the transition area at this time to set up your changing area.
A team of volunteers will be handing out bibs and goodie bags and marking bodies beginning around 7 AM. Be sure to get your bib pinned to whatever you will be wearing on the bike and run.
All participants will gather for a pre race meeting by the pool at 7:30 AM. This will be an opportunity to have the rules explained to you and any updated details about the course.
The first swim heat should take off at approximately 7:45 AM. We anticipate holding 3 swim heats with 12 to 15 participants in the pool at any given time. The swimmers with slowest anticipated swim times will enter the pool first.
