Principles of Triathlon Training
Here are some basic principles of triathlon training:
1. Lifting is important. The strength training that is included in your weekly workout is a must. You’ll need both upper and lower body strength to make it through the swimming, biking and running events. We are not looking to build body mass, just to tone what you have and make the most efficient use of it as possible.
2. The swim is the easiest part. Trust us on this. No matter how poorly you swim right now, by the time Triathlon day arrives we will have you prepared to get through this discipline quite easily.
3. Set your personal goal to simply finish. If you have never competed in a triathlon before you are already guaranteed to perform a personal best. Even if you were to be the very last person to cross the finish line you would finish ahead of everyone who had the chance to train and compete but chose not to. Do not diminish your accomplishment by setting an unrealistic time or place goal.
….and more about swimming: We will not be starting required swimming workouts until the first week in March. By then you will be in the habit of working out 5 days per week and you will be ready to focus on something new.
Our program’s home base for swimming will be the Sand Dunes Swimming Pool in Hooper, Colorado. If you prefer swimming elsewhere, that will be fine.
